Photography and Design Zine
This was a project that came about for no other reason than to create something selfishly. After 8 years in the "creative industry" I realised that I am not in the creative industry at all. I have worked as a web designer, graphic designer, photographer, social media whiz, along with a slew of other titles that actually allowed for little creativity at all for in-house departments who felt . When I realised that I was more concerned with the conceptualisation and execution of creative ideas, I knew that if I wanted someone else to hire me on the merit of my ideas I had to show them off. No one is going to just hand you the job you want.
With that in mind I figured the more I move toward the world of art and creative direction, the more compromise comes into play. Negative Space is simply a concept. As a hobby (and sometimes professional) photographer I was looking to display some of that work in traditional print media rather than social. I wanted to experience the process, and if I was going to do something 100% for myself, built of my own ideas, I wanted to start it before I got too deep into compromising my work for others. I labelled the zine "ISSUE #1" as a commitment to myself to keep creating. To keep an aspect of selfish individuality in my work that my often be pushed to the side in my professional commitment.
