WHAT IS MULTIDISCIPLINARY DESIGN?

A multidisciplinary approach to design leads to insightful and innovative solutions based on a comprehensive understanding of complex problems.

The problems are often presented as business hurdles, but extend to social, environmental, and ethical issues that may also benefit from expertly crafted and considered design solutions.

Most designers start as generalists, but with an increased focus in specialisation over the last 20 years a gap has grown for experienced multidisciplinarians.

I've never found one thing I want to do forever, so I did a bit of everything as I explored the intersection of form and function. Almost 20 years later and I'm still exploring, the internet is just better.

MY DESIGN BACKGROUND

SERVICES
FOR HIRE

As a kid I would spend afternoons in my dad's woodshop, or on worksites in the holidays crafting things out of timber scraps, plaster and whatever else was laying around. I was really into painting miniatures, Star Wars, comic books, trading cards, and all manor of visual, tactile things.

By 2000 I was in my teens and had dropped the connecta pens for spray cans and markers. I didn't realise I was learning more about flow, type and form than any art school could have thought me. Novellists get thousands of words to make their point. Songwriters get hundreds. Graffiti writers get 3-6 letters. One word, that's it.

After a few years of dodging near death, I decided I better legitimise wanting to paint or take photo's

GOOD DESIGN TAKES TIME

Design is an iterative process. Progress is made by solving real-world problems in real time. It's important to step back and gain perspective to ensure you hit your mark.

These principals work for designers as for actors, painters, photographers, architects and many other applied arts and design disciplines.

Research informs design decisions, and the more known before that decision process begins, the more considered the end result will be.

Brand Guidelines greatly help with consistency and increased visibility where applied and are fundamental to any identity or design development project.
